Some Greeks said that it’s all music.

They wrote that ‘art’; irrespective of its form (poem, painting, sculpture, dance) is a variation on a single facility, essentially expressed in the ‘art’ of making music.

I think that’s reasonable. After all, music is made of air and it’s invisible! That sounds like an ‘essence’ to me, perhaps even ‘elemental’.

My point?

What music do you like?

I say enjoy more of it. Enjoy as much of it as makes you happy. Sing into a hairbrush if you want (I do). Just enjoy it.

If you ‘get’ music (‘feel it’ as the Hip Hop people say), you’ll ‘get’ poetry and if you ‘get’ poetry, you’ll ‘get’ Shakespeare.

In my opinion,
but…

To be honest, I’ve never read a Shakespearean sonnet and the last time I saw one of his plays I fell asleep. Not because of his writing, which is splendid, but because of my own fatigue and a notoriously bad production.

I actually fell asleep during Macbeth and you really have to mess up to lull an audience member into a deep, restful slumber during Macbeth (that’s my excuse anyway).

To the bard.
To the sublime.
To music.
Peace

Take me out tonight Where there's music and there's people And they're young and alive Driving in your car I never never want to go home Because I haven't got one Anymore Take me out tonight Because I want to see people and I Want to see life....
